“Moves Like Jagger” - The Return of Adam Levine & Maroon 5

Let’s assume that, if you’re reading this, you turn on the radio every once in a while – or, at least, are reasonably well-versed in the current Top 40. Assuming this, it’s pretty safe to say that you’ve heard “Moves Like Jagger” a handful of times, and that you may have sung along once or twice. We might even go as far as to assume you tapped your toe to the beat or, -- dare we say? – outright danced to the catchy chorus. “I’ve got the moves like Jagger! I’ve got the moves like Jagger! I’ve got the mo-o-o-o-o-ooves like Jagger!” We don’t blame you – you’re not the only one who’s caught the Maroon 5 Fever.

Put simply, “Moves Like Jagger” has become one of the single best-selling songs… ever. As of last November (that’s three months ago!), 7 million copies were already sold worldwide. An impressive feat for a talented band – more impressive still for a band whose tunes were missing from radio waves for a few years. Really, think back. What’s the last Maroon 5 song you remember on the radio? Their previous album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, was released in 2007, and “Makes Me Wonder” (the first single) was a huge success – the band’s first Billboard Hot 100 #1. But since that album, and that song, the band (aside from a tour following the album’s release) has been pretty silent. And although the years have gone by quickly, Maroon 5’s absence was noticeable in the music community.

And then… Hands All Over dropped in 2010. “Misery” was sent out into the world as the first single, but it was the success of “Moves Like Jagger” that really had people amped up for Adam Levine bold return. The song premiered on "The Voice" – the reality singing competition judged by both Levine and Christina Aguilera, who is also featured on the song. The collaboration, though offbeat in theory, worked well together; Aguilera’s well-known, powerful voice fits right in with the upbeat, celebratory tone of the song. And though they lost to the Tony Bennett / Amy Winehouse duet, they were nominated for a Grammy in 2012.

Maroon 5 has always had a large following and dedicated fans, but the success of “Moves Like Jagger” is earning Levine even more esteem as a singer, songwriter, and unique pop musician. He has yet to fail in his songs’ catchiness, as well as their retro (yet era-appropriate) feel.
