Massive hit “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj is endlessly catchy, but what is the song’s meaning? While filming the video, the 28 year-old offered MTV News her lyrics translation: ” ‘Super Bass’ is about the boy that you are crushing over,” Nicki said. “And you kind of want to get your mack on, but you’re taking the playful approach.” The video, which features her dancing on a clear motorcycle, is an exploration of that theme: “I just wanted to do something real colorful and cutesy,” she said. “This is an icy world, it’s a sexy world, it’s a playful world. Of course I have lots of eye candy for my girls and my boys.”

Nicki’s plan to play it as cool as ice seems to be working, given all her music downloads and album sales. When her song “Your Love” hit #1 on the Billboard Charts for hot rap songs, she was the first woman to have a #1 solo rap song since Missy Elliot’s “Work It” in 2002. Nicki has so many great songs that she is also the first artist ever to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time.

So many people have become fans of Nicki and “Super Bass” that even 5 year-old girls are singing along to her lyrics! Sophia Grace Brownlee, 8, and her 5 year-old cousin Rosie posted a YouTube video of them singing a cover of the song and have received over 22 million hits! The girls were flown from the UK to Los Angeles to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show, where Ellen surprised them by bringing out Nicki Minaj herself! Sophia ran up to Nicki and gave her a big hug. “Within five seconds of seeing this video, I was calling everyone and I was also receiving a billion emails,” Nicki said. “Everyone was like, ‘you have to see this little girl.’ She blew me away!” Nicki was especially impressed that Rosie is Sophia’s “hype girl.”
