The Bird And The Bee

With their Flaming Lips-style whimsical pop and an abiding love for half-century-old standards matched with Inara George’s wispy, winsome vocals, a sweet coquettish coo subversively hinting at gin-soaked debauchery, the Bird (George, daughter of Little Feat's Lowell George) and the Bee (Greg Kurstin, ex- of similarly minded Geggy Tah) earned a deserved spot as Blue Note’s resident indie popsters in the ‘00s. The pair met cute when an impromptu jam session was brought on by a shared adoration of musty jazz classics. They inched their way into the pop subconscious as critics clamored to fete their enchanting LPs and as their lushly cinematic compositions became natural soundtrack staples.
