Newton Faulkner and Sara Bareilles @ The Enmore, 8th September 2008
Tue, 09 Sep 2008 15:11:30 | By lkatulka
Ordinarily when I see a show it’s one that I couldn’t pass up. It wasn’t the case last night when I ventured out to catch Sara Bareilles and Newton Faulkner at The Enmore. Sara was only the warm up act, but I was so sorry to see her leave the stage! Sara may be a big star, but Newton Faulkner was clearly the man everyone came to see. There was a lot that I didn’t realise about Newton Faulkner. More...

"One Sweet Love," a ballad with a pretty chorus, offers a softer sound and gentle piano that melts into a bright and happy track. At times sounding like Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill, or Jamiroquai, and at other times channeling Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan or Sarah Harmer, with a dash of Amy Grant, Jason Mraz and/or Maroon 5 in the mix, singer/songwriter Sara Bareilles and her CD, Little Voice, have more to them than meets the eye. Sara Bareilles - ‘Love Song’ Music Video Review | What A Descriptive Title!
Wed, 26 Mar 2008 05:07:44 | By Dave Parrack
With a title like Love Song, this track needs to tick certain boxes for me:-1. It needs to be good enough to warrant such a generic title as Love Song - MISSThis isn't really a bad song, but it's also not anywhere near being at the top of its genre, or the best example of a love song by any means. The video is better, showing imagination and the use of some clever visual ideas. More...

Biography of

Sara Bareilles

b. 7 December 1979, Humboldt County, California, USA. A singer-songwriter and pianist in the mould of Fiona Apple and Michelle Branch, Bareilles was raised in rural California before leaving for the city in her late teens to attend UCLA. She completed a Communication Studies degree but was also active as a performer on the Los Angles open-mic club scene, in addition to singing with the collegiate vocal group Awaken. Her songwriting began to take shape during this period and she was soon confident enough to begin performing her own material in public. Between 2003 and 2004 she self-released two live albums and the demo CD Careful Confessions in limited runs. The latter collection featured seven studio recordings and four live tracks, with the tracks ‘Love On The Rocks’, ‘Gravity’ and ‘Fairytale’ showing notable maturity for a young songwriter. Of equal note were Bareilles’ strident vocals, which helped set her apart from many of her waif-like contemporaries.

The album came to the attention of Epic Records and within the space of a year Bareilles had signed a recording contract with the label. She revisited several songs from Careful Confessions on her major label debut, which was recorded with producer Eric Rosse. Released in summer 2007, Little Voice featured re-recorded versions of ‘Love On The Rocks’, ‘Gravity’ and ‘Fairytale’, alongside the chiming pop of the Internet hit single ‘Love Song’. The latter had topped the iTunes chart prior to the release of the album, and it was online that Little Voice established its grip on the public imagination before crossing over to the mainstream US charts. ‘Love Song’ also reached the US Top 5.
